CoARA Spotlight: Implementing tools for responsible research assessment in biomedical disciplines

CoARA Spotlight BioMed

We’re excited to announce our latest CoARA Spotlight on “Implementing tools for responsible research assessment in biomedical disciplines”!

Highlighting research assessment reform within biomedical disciplines, our CoARA Spotlight will showcase how solutions can be adopted across organisations to broaden the scope of assessment. The CoARA Spotlight brings together three case studies from Charité Berlin, University of Tübingen, and the Association of Healthcare Researchers – Italy (ARSI).

The first half of the CoARA Spotlight will examine the MERIT portal, presented by Dr. Miriam Kip, Co-Chair for the WG SAGA and project lead for the Institutional Change Cascade Funding project at Charite Berlin. The Open MERIT portal offers a tool to support researchers, RPOs, and RFOs to build robust, quality-oriented and evidence-based application and assessment systems.

Following a deep dive of the Open MERIT portal tools, Dr. Inka Montero (University of Tübingen) will present the uptake and adaptation of the MERT portal at University of Tübingen.

Drawing on another case study within biomedical disciplines, the second half of the Spotlight will turn to the Association of Healthcare Researchers – Italy (ARSI) Cascade Funding Pilot project, presented by Dr. Valeria Contarino. The presentation will shift focus to ARSI’s implementation of a scalable model for impact-based assessment of translational research, exploring how the framework can be adapted to different contexts for medical researchers.

The session will conclude with an open discussion that will aim to foster exchange for those who are interested in responsible research assessment practices in the biomedical disciplines, building a network for a potential discipline-focused community of practice.
