Regional CoARA Forum 2026: Research Excellence and Language Bias in Research Assessment

2 June 2026 | Budapest, Hungary | Hybrid event

Bringing together national representatives and members from the CoARA community, the upcoming Regional CoARA Forum will take place on 2 June 2026 in Budapest, Hungary, hosted by HUN-REN. The forum will explore key topics such as research excellence and language biases in research assessment, with a particular focus on perspectives from both Widening and Non-Widening contexts.

The Forum will convene a broad range of participants, including high-level decision-makers, National Chapter representatives, researchers, experts, and institutional stakeholders, alongside partners engaged in advancing research assessment reform. The event aims to foster exchange on emerging approaches, share practical experiences, and strengthen collaboration across communities working towards more inclusive and responsible assessment systems.

Throughout the day, participants will engage in keynote presentations, panel discussions, and interactive exchanges addressing the evolving understanding of excellence in research assessment and the implications of language bias for evaluation practices. Keynote presentations include talks given by CoARA Vice Chair, Janne Pölönen, and Steering Board member, Prof. Stanislaw Kistryn, alongside key contributors within the CoARA Community. The programme is designed to encourage dialogue across disciplines and systems, supporting the development of shared insights and new perspectives on implementation challenges and opportunities.

The Forum will be held in English and will be accessible in a hybrid format, allowing participation both in person and online. Online participants will be able to follow the event in real time and contribute to discussions via Mentimeter.
